About the film

When David learns that his closest friend Hans is depressed he decides to some stay at home for a while to care for him. No one likes to be alone, what makes fish any different?

A film about friendship and a bond between a man and his fish. The narrative examines themes of loss, loneliness, depression and the projection of emotion. As well as the mourning of relationships and social anxiety.

Shot between Lockdowns ‘Holding Hans’ played on the zeitgeist and examination of isolation and those who shied away from society before any of us did.

Production

‘Holding Hans’ was shot in October 2020 with a skeleton crew.

Unfortunately the real Hans on which the film is based passed away only two weeks before the production commenced. We pressed on however, as Hans would have wanted, and through a combination of live action filmmaking, puppetry and VFX we are resurrecting Hans for the big screen.

The film is currently on a festival run and we can’t wait to share the film with audiences throughout this year.

Original Score

We are incredibly excited to announce our collaboration with ‘Maliki’, one of the most innovative bands in the U.K Jazz scene today who will be composing an original sound score to accompany the film. Using influences from Jon Brion and Portico Quartet ‘Maliki’ have already created a stunning theme for David’s character that we will be sharing soon.
